Not a lot of miscellaneous stuff here (yet).
In 2005, a couple of big hurricanes (Katrina and Rita) did a lot of damage to the US Gulf Coast. Having a lot of interests in home renovation and construction, and seeing just how many houses were destroyed, or will need to be demolished due to extensive damage, I wrote up a "wishlist" of sorts that I would start from if I could get involved. Perhaps it will give others some ideas in helping re-house the people of the region.
I have a few selected sites in housing related topics. This isn't meant to be all encompassing or a recommendation for particular products here.
Cooking is actually a very complicated endeavour from a scientific point of view. That some people (actually quite a few) become quite skilled in cooking with little or no formal scientific training is a testament to how we can intuitively pick up complicated topics. In view of this, it isn't surprising to me that some people skilled in cooking, also happen to be pretty good at things like chemistry. Large swaths of materials science and engineering rely on similar intuition instead of the much more complicated first principles basis.
Many people need, or at least use, a recipe in order to cook something. Cookbooks are full of recipes, and so are many web sites. Recipes in cookbooks are typically only indexed on what the recipes produce, while recipes on web sites are indexed on every single word on the page (which may include a lot of stuff which has nothing to do with the recipe). I have my opinion as to what a recipe is. This file is an Adobe Acrobat (PDF = Portable Document Format) file.
People tend to get busy, and finding fast ways to cook food is often of interest. Legumes can be a staple part of a diet, and ordinary peas are a legume. Here is my version of one of the world's easiest recipes for peas. It's not quite a recipe by my own definition. :-)
There are lots of people who are interested in saving money, and so buying inexpensive cuts of meat is of interest. How should one prepare and cook an inexpensive cut of meat? So, some hints on fast/cheap meat.
